Every boat and yacht on Pickup is crewed. Guests board as passengers. Your certified captain and crew operate the vessel.
What you need
A boat listing cannot publish until these are on file and verified:
- Your LASWA licence or permit and NIWA registration, with your NIMASA licence where it applies.
- A seaworthiness or inspection certificate.
- Your approved passenger capacity.
- Commercial marine insurance with passenger liability and hull cover. This is your own policy and a hard gate per listing.
- A captain with a NIMASA certificate of competency and a seafarer medical, plus crew with their papers.
- Proof of ownership or a charter agreement (optional).
Capacity and safety
Add your life jackets, safety briefing and safety kit under Safety kit. These appear on your listing. Never carry more people than the approved capacity. Infants count toward the limit.
Life jackets are worn at all times on board. Boat trips run in daylight only, and operators cannot switch this off. Set your Last departure under Weather and daylight. See Weather and safety cancellations.
Creating the listing
- Open Listings and tap +, then choose a boat.
- Enter builder, model, size, power, type and guests.
- Add your Boarding jetty, safety kit, and captain and crew.
- Upload your permits, inspection certificate and marine insurance.
- Take photos: front quarter, rear quarter, side, bridge station and seating area.
- Set How guests book, your trip types and prices, extras and availability.
- Choose your cancellation options and boat rules.
- Submit for review.
Trust and Safety reviews the listing before it goes live, usually within 2 business days.
Your jetties
You choose where guests board. Third party jetties are not controlled by Pickup, and Pickup doesn't promise they are safe. Check each boarding point yourself and tell guests about anything they need to know.
Vessel rules
Rules such as no smoking on deck or no glass on deck are agreed by guests at checkout. See Setting listing rules.
Keep it current
Document expiry dates are tracked. An expired document pauses the listing and cancels its upcoming bookings. See Vessel surveys and safety equipment.
The contract of carriage is between the guest and you, the licensed operator. Pickup is never the carrier. Read the Operator Agreement.
