Before and after trip evidence

How to take before and after trip photos and video that hold up in a Pickup damage dispute: angles, timestamps, booking IDs and how long to keep them.

Evidence decides most damage disputes. A few minutes of photos before and after each trip helps you far more than a description written days later. Take them on your own phone. You add them to the app when you report a problem.

Before the trip

  1. Photograph the asset shortly before the guest boards. Cover every exterior angle and the cabin.
  2. Capture close ups of any existing marks, so they are not mistaken for new damage.
  3. Make sure your photos are timestamped. Most phone cameras store the time automatically; keep the original files.
  4. Note the booking ID so every file can be matched to the trip.

After the trip

  1. Repeat the same photos from the same angles as soon as the guest leaves.
  2. Record a short walk around video if anything looks different.
  3. Photograph any new damage, mess or missing items up close and from a distance, so the location is clear.
  4. Keep receipts and quotes for any cleaning or repair.

What good evidence looks like

  • Clear, well lit and in focus.
  • Timestamped and unedited.
  • Linked to the booking ID.
  • Consistent angles before and after.

For cars, the angles you use for your listing photos are a good checklist: front, rear, both quarters, side, dashboard, front seats and rear seats. For vessels and aircraft, include the seating area and any area guests used.

Keep it for a while

Keep trip evidence until you are sure no claim will arise, and longer if a dispute is open. Share it only through Pickup support, not on social media.
