Car operators in Lagos work under Pickup's Service Entity Permit from the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, in the chauffeur hire category. Regulatory Information gives the permit's exact category and current status. You still hold your own commercial transport and vehicle licences.
What you need
- A registered business (CAC) with its fleet.
- Every vehicle fully licensed: hackney permit, vehicle licence, roadworthiness certificate and commercial insurance.
- The ability to provide commercial registration, your Lagos permit, tracking device data, inspection logs and the vehicle tag.
- Every chauffeur checked: NIN with a selfie match, FRSC driver's licence and your confirmation, aged 21 or over and a Nigerian citizen. The LASDRI card is optional for now.
See Commercial licensing for cars.
Your ongoing duties
- Report incidents in the app immediately, and within 24 hours.
- Cooperate with inspections, audits and any information the Ministry needs.
- Call your chauffeurs to order. Act at once on any notice about a chauffeur's conduct. If a chauffeur's failure leads to a fine, you indemnify Pickup.
- Never accept street hails. Every trip is booked in advance through the app.
- Respect driving hour limits. See How long can one chauffeur drive in a day?.
Data shared with the Ministry
Chauffeur and vehicle details, and accident data, as the 2023 Regulation requires. The reports hold only what the Regulation requires, and no guest trip histories.
The rules are in the Operator Agreement and Regulatory Information.
