Setting listing rules

How to add and edit listing rules on Pickup, the starting rules for cars, boats and aircraft, and how to write a clear rule you can rely on.

Listing rules tell guests how to behave on board. Guests agree to them at checkout, so a clear rule is one you can rely on later.

Rules you can add

The app starts you with common rules you can switch on or off, plus your own.

  • Cars: No smoking or vaping, No food in the car, Seat belts on at all times, Children under 12 need a child seat, Stops agreed before the trip, Pets allowed.
  • Boats: No smoking on deck, No glass on deck, Shoes off on deck, Children wear life jackets at all times, Swim only when the captain says so, Pets allowed.
  • Aircraft: Photo ID for every passenger, Arrive 30 minutes before departure, Baggage within the weight limit, No dangerous goods, The captain decides on weather and safety, Pets allowed.

Tap Add a rule to write a rule of your own.

Adding or editing rules

  1. Open Listings and choose the listing.
  2. Tap Car rules (Boat rules or Flight rules).
  3. Switch the rules that apply on or off, or tap Add a rule and type a new one.
  4. Save your changes.

Changes apply to new bookings only. Confirmed bookings keep the rules the guest agreed to.

Writing a good rule

  • Keep it short and specific. "No food in the cabin" beats "Respect the vehicle".
  • Make sure it is lawful and applied to every guest equally.
  • Do not use rules to add charges. Price extras through your listing instead. See Adding extras.
  • Safety rules set by law, such as life jackets on boats, apply whether or not you list them.
