What is the Lagos road levy on car trips?

What the Lagos State road levy on car trips is, who pays it, how it shows as its own line at checkout, and how Pickup collects and remits it.

A Lagos State road levy applies to car trips and is shown as its own line at checkout. It applies to car trips only, never to boats or jets.

How it works on Pickup

  1. The levy is part of the all in price the guest sees on your listing.
  2. At checkout it is shown as its own amount, Road levy, and again on the receipt. There is no VAT on it.
  3. Pickup collects it with the rest of the payment and remits it to the State, as your agent.
  4. If the trip does not happen, the guest gets the levy back in full.

The levy is not taken from your payout. It does not reduce the amount you earn, and you do not need to build it into your price.

Where it applies

Car bookings in Lagos. Boats and aircraft are subject to their own regulators' charges, which you include in your own price where they apply.

On your statement

The levy is a separate statutory line, not part of your gross bookings, commission or payout, so it does not appear in those figures.

The rules are in the Operator Agreement.
