What do I do after an accident or incident during a trip?

What to do after an accident or incident on a trip: call 112, report in the app straight away and within 24 hours, notify your insurer and keep evidence.

Call 112 first if anyone is hurt or in danger. Then report the incident in the app straight away, and in any event within 24 hours.

Straight away

  1. Make everyone safe. Call 112 if anyone is injured or at risk.
  2. Report it in the app. Open the booking, tap the help icon, then There's been an accident.
  3. Do not move evidence unless safety requires it.

Within 24 hours

  • Tell us what happened, when, where and who was involved.
  • Notify your insurer. Claims for injury or damage arising from a trip are made against your insurance.
  • Make your chauffeur or crew available to Pickup, the emergency services and the authorities.

Keep evidence

Photos and video of the scene and the vehicle, names and contacts of witnesses, the police report number if there is one, and any dashcam or tracking data.

Reporting to the authorities

Pickup reports accident data for car trips to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, as the 2023 Regulation requires. These reports hold only what the Regulation requires, and no guest trip histories. Boat incidents may also need reporting to LASWA or NIWA, and aviation occurrences to the NCAA and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, under your own licence.

Insurance

You hold the commercial insurance for the trips you deliver. Pickup does not sell insurance. After an injury or severe property damage, Pickup gives the claimant your insurance certificate details. We also share the booking records we hold with you, the guest and your insurer to support a claim. See Claiming through your own insurer.

The rules are in the Operator Agreement.
