What if a guest wants to bring their own armed security detail?

How to handle a guest who travels with lawfully assigned, on duty security personnel, such as a police detail, and your right to decide whether to carry them.

2 min readUpdated 2 November 2026For operators

No armed escorts are arranged through Pickup. But some guests, such as government officials, travel with their own lawfully assigned, on duty personnel. They may travel only if you consent, and your decision is made for safety and regulatory reasons.

When the guest tells you in advance

Guests are asked to message you before the trip with how many personnel will travel and whether they are armed. You may ask for reasonable evidence that they are on official duty.

  • You may accept or decline. Reply before the trip.
  • If you decline after being told in advance, the booking is cancelled and the guest receives a full refund. This does not count as your cancellation.
  • Personnel count towards your certified capacity.

When there was no notice

If personnel arrive without notice and you decline to carry them, the booking is treated as cancelled by the guest inside the notice window under the Cancellation and Refund Policy.

By type of trip

  • Cars: at your discretion.
  • Boats: at your captain's discretion.
  • Aircraft: only with your agreement. NCAA and aviation security screening stays absolute on every jet segment.

Fair decisions

Decide on safety and regulatory grounds only, never because of who the guest is. See Treating every guest fairly.

The rules are in the Weapons and Prohibited Items Policy.
