Can a guest ask for a male or female chauffeur?

How to handle a guest request for a chauffeur or crew member of a particular gender, and how to protect your crew from unfair treatment.

Pickup has no option to choose a chauffeur's gender. A guest may ask you in messages, for comfort, privacy or cultural reasons. You may accommodate the request if you can.

How to respond

  • If you can assign someone who meets the request, assign them in the app as normal.
  • If you cannot, say so politely. The guest can then decide whether to continue.
  • You do not need to record the request anywhere. Pickup does not require or record it.

Protect your crew

  • Never penalise a chauffeur or crew member, or treat them less favourably, because a guest did not choose them.
  • Assign crew lawfully and fairly. Gender, religion, ethnicity or disability must never be the reason a crew member loses work, except where the law allows.

Pickup's position

Pickup is neutral. We neither encourage nor discourage these requests, and they do not affect ratings or ranking.

The rules are in the Nondiscrimination Policy.
