Planning a day on the water in Lagos

Plan a boat or yacht trip in Lagos: daylight rules, life jackets, what to bring and what happens if the weather turns.

Every boat and yacht on Pickup comes with a licensed captain and crew. You relax. They handle the vessel.

Daylight only

Boat trips run in daylight only: departure after sunrise and return before sunset. This is a Lagos waterways rule, and operators cannot switch it off. Plan your trip so you are back at the jetty before dark.

Before you book

  • Guests. Count everyone, including infants. Vessels have a strict passenger limit.
  • Departure point. Check the jetty or marina shown on the listing.
  • Duration. Allow time for boarding and the return leg.
  • Extras. Check what is included, such as refreshments, and what you can bring.

On the day

  1. Arrive at the departure point 15 minutes early.
  2. Meet the captain and crew at the jetty in your trip pack. Crew are shown by role, not by name.
  3. Listen to the safety briefing.
  4. Put on your life jacket. Life jackets are worn at all times on board.
  5. Follow the captain's instructions for the whole trip.

Jetties belong to third parties. Pickup does not control them and does not promise they are safe, so take care when boarding and follow the crew. Tell us if a jetty looks unsafe.

Weather and safety

The captain has final say on whether it is safe to sail, where you go and when you return. If weather or water conditions make a trip unsafe, your operator may delay, shorten or cancel it. If the trip cannot go ahead, you get a refund of the total price, less a fair amount for any part already delivered. See the Cancellation and Refund Policy.

What to bring

  • Sun protection and water
  • A light layer for the return
  • Anything valuable in a waterproof bag

Need to make changes?

Open the trip in Trips and tap Change reservation or Cancel reservation, subject to your cancellation option. Message your operator about anything else.

The full rules are in the Major Disruptive Events Policy and Passenger Acknowledgement and Assumption of Risk.
