Every aircraft has a maximum weight it can safely carry. The operator and the pilot in command plan each flight around the weight of the passengers, baggage and fuel. These limits are set by law and by the aircraft, and they are not negotiable.
What to tell the operator
When you search, you add your large bags, cabin bags and special items. When the operator asks, give accurate details of:
- the number of passengers and, if requested, their approximate weights;
- the number and size of bags, including golf bags, sports equipment and large cases;
- anything unusual, such as medical equipment or musical instruments.
Accurate details help the operator plan fuel and seating. Inaccurate details can delay or stop a flight.
Baggage space
Light jets have less baggage space than larger aircraft. Soft bags usually fit better than hard cases. If you have a lot of luggage, choose a larger aircraft or ask the operator before you book. See Planning a private charter flight.
What you cannot carry
Dangerous goods, such as flammable liquids, gas canisters, certain batteries and fireworks, are restricted on aircraft. Weapons are carried only as the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority and aviation security rules allow, and with the operator's agreement. Screening applies to everyone on every jet segment. See the Weapons and Prohibited Items Policy.
If you arrive with more than declared
The pilot in command decides whether the aircraft can carry it safely. Extra baggage may have to stay behind, or the flight may be delayed. These decisions are final at the time they are made, under the Passenger Acknowledgement and Assumption of Risk.
